Jay Georgiou, 19, and an accomplice broke into a home in Eastbourne, East Sussex, on April 1 while one of the victims was playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 with a friend in nearby Brighton.
Georgiou hit one of the men with an imitation handgun and both robbers threatened to shoot and stab their victims if they did not give them money and drugs.
They then tied them up and left the flat with a laptop, mobile phones and the Xbox console, Sussex Police said.
The friend overheard the robbery on his gaming headset and called police, who arrested Georgiou a mile away just two hours later.
